The Valbruna Inn is a small hotel on Valbruna's main
street in the heart of the Julian Alps. We are a group of
lifetime friends that in 1999 decided to remodel an old
building, which was part of the history of the Valbruna
village since 1951 when Egidio Kail opened the Pensione
Keil in the old family house next to the church in the
heart of the village.
The Valbruna Inn just celebrated its 10th anniversary in
December 2012. The remodeling of the old building took
three years when our architect, Mrs. Toni Cester Toso,
worked to include modern amenities in an environment
ispired by the history and traditions of a village that
was part of the Austro-Ungarian Empire until after World
War I. Toni decided to use exclusively local materials and
we employed only local artisans and contractors to handle
the renovation of a building that truly belongs to the
village and its community. The library came first: books
carry on the memory of a time and a blend of cultures that
cannot be found anywhere else and could soon be forgotten.
Then, the rooms are designed to be a home for those
visiting Valbruna from far away, lastly the restaurant and
the other common areas where countless details combined
with a creative blend of modern and antique features allow
our guests to discover our exclusive 5-heart ospitality.
The Valbruna Inn offers the comfort of an extensive
wellness area with Finnish sauna, a powerful shiatsu
massager and a large relax area with ergonomic lounge
chairs and free hanging sky-chairs.
Within the Inn, offering wi-fi access in every area, you
will also find the "Al vecchio Keil" bar, the "Saisera
Hutte" stube in antique wood, and the "Julius Kugy."
The library is named in honor of Julius Kugy, legendary
alpinist, explorer and writer of the early 1900s who
celebrated the beauty of the Julian Alps in his numerous
books, feattures hundreds of books, in Italian, English
and German about mountaineering, flowers and plants, art,
cuisine, history and traditions of this territory where
threee substancially diverse cultures, Italian, Austria
and Slavic, blended for generations creating what is
considered a totally unique cultural mix.
The library is the old wood-fireplace room with the
classic red Vanity Fair sofa and armchair by Frau, antique
furniture, custom made book shelves with hundreds of
volumes, some rare and antique like a copy of Everest
signed by Sir Edmund Hillary, a hundred-year-old pedal
harmonium and a modern piano that create with the adjacent
bar a warm and cozy ambience.
All the 13 rooms, with beautiful views of the Julian Alps
and of the Tarvisio National Forest surrounding the
village, are appointed with colors, upholstery, beddings,
tiles and bathroom features individually selected and are
each dedicated to a peak, an historical figure or another
significant theme of the local history or culture.
Some additional features are also added to different rooms
to offer each guest a special atmosphere: a
wood-fireplace, an oversized tub with view on the peaks,
double walk-in or waterfall showers, panoramic balconies,
King-size beds or a leather reading armchairs.
