The "Abete di Risonanza" tree, Picea excelsa fissilis, is a rare
type of spruce that can only be found in a few areas around the world including
the valleys around Valbruna. This particular tree is used by violin makers
all over the world to build the front part of the body of many string instruments
like violins, cellos and guitars. It must grow slowly and consistently to
generate tight concentric rings which will guarantee the sound quality of
the instruments. Mr. Bruno Deotto, founder of the Deotto wood company in
Valbruna is one of very few who can recognize a "good violin tree"
just by looking at it. He taught this art to his son, Davide, and together
they locate and prepare wood for many world-renown violin makers.

This room features a section of a local old spruce
tree that witnessed, in his 150 years, many historical events in Valbruna
and the surrounding mountains.
