Valbruna local Anton Oitzinger was "not just an alpine guide in the common meaning of the term, he had a complete and unique personality, an eagle of the mountains". This is how Julius Kugy described his favorite alpine guide in the Oitzinger's biography he wrote in 1924, titled "Son of a Mountain". Oitzinger often accompanied Kugy as they explored the unclimbed peaks of the Julian Alps in the early 1900's and was his good friend for almost 50 years, "…we always went hiking with a smile." Anton's house can still be seen at the end of the street named after him, "Vicolo Oitzinger" in the lower part of town. The King size bed and a peak at the large West private deck.
